쇠성 Soeseong 衰盛, 2024, Single Channel Video, color, loop
볼펜으로 모조 피부 위에 그려진 스톱모션 형식의 쇠성(衰盛)은*표면 위에 세워지는 가상 도시의 구축을 상상한다. 오직 쪼개지고 나뉠 뿐인 말랑한 피부 위의 선들은 더욱 많은 형태를 위해 반복적으로 덧칠된다. 칠할 수 있는 여백이 보장된 상태와, 이미 가득 칠해져 지워도 눌린 자국이 남는 상태 사이에서, 가능성과 포화 상태를 오가는 알 수 없는 쇠(衰)와 성(盛)의 순환이 반복된다. 이미 지워진 흔적 위에 합성된 프레임 사이에서 발생하는 움직임들은 쇠와 성이라는 양면을 겹쳐 루프된다.
Rendered as a stop-motion animation drawn with ballpoint pen on artificial skin, Soeseong (衰盛) imagines the construction of a virtual city erected across a surface. The lines drawn upon the soft skin—which can only be divided and segmented—are repeatedly overlaid in pursuit of ever more forms. Between a state in which blank space remains available for inscription and another in which the surface has already been filled, leaving indented traces even after erasure, an indeterminate cycle of decline (衰) and flourishing (盛) repeats itself between possibility and saturation. The movements produced between frames composited over already-erased traces loop by folding together the dual states of decline and flourishing.
At the open studio event held throughout the Euljiro area, 400VIEW presented an intermediate stage of the build-up process for Soeseong (衰盛).

쇠성 Soeseong 衰盛은 의정부 두레방 기지촌 여성들의 터전을 지키기 위한 연대 전시 《Since 1986 My Sisters Place : 거품 소음 웅성거림》에서 발표되었다.
“… 『거품, 소음, 웅성거림』은 기지촌 여성으로 활동가로 살아온 주민으로 인정받지 못하는 이들의 목소리를 매개하고자 한다. 더불어 도시재생에 대한 저항이나 대응이 아닌, 두레방이 품고 있는 지역의 역사적, 문화적 가치를 펼쳐내어 지역과 공생할 수 있는 뉴프로젝트로서의 도시재생을 함께 상상해 보길 제안한다.”

쇠성 Soeseong 衰盛 was presented in 《Since 1986 My Sisters Place: Foam, Noise, Murmuring》, a solidarity exhibition dedicated to protecting the living grounds of women from the Uijeongbu Durebang camptown community.
“Foam, Noise, Murmuring seeks to mediate the voices of those who, despite having lived as camptown women and activists, have not been recognized as residents. Rather than proposing resistance or opposition to urban regeneration, the exhibition suggests imagining a new form of urban regeneration that can coexist with the region by unfolding the historical and cultural values embodied by Durebang.”
