가상의 편지가 땅에서 발견된 뒤, 이 편지가 묻혀있던 과거를 추적하는 편지 위 줄 아래 바닥 은 영상 속, 그리고 관념적 시간의 흐르는 시간의 직선적 움직임을 변형하고자 하는 목표로 만들어졌다.
오래전 땅에 묻힌 편지는 공간적으로 이미 도착했지만, 많은 시간을 이동하여 발견된 순간에야 비로소 전송이 완료된다. 차올랐던 수면이 다시 내려갈 정도의 시간이 흐른 후에 편지는 발견된다. 과거에서 전송된 편지를 건져올리기 위해 낚싯줄을 던진다. 편지 위에는 잉크의 흔적과 글이 있었던 자리만 남아 있다. 우리는 ‘글을 써 내려간다.’고 말하지만 글은 한 글자씩 옆으로 추가된다. 지형이 변하듯 시간이 축적되면서 이야기는 끝을 향해 흘러가지만 이미지는 화면 위에서 저장되기보단 계속해서 나아가기에, 고정된 순간보단 휘발의 순간을 더욱 극명하게 드러낸다. 묻힌 것들을 낚기 위해 아래로 던져진 낚싯줄은 바닥 위에 부딪힌다. 지면과 종이를 오가는 줄들은 그물처럼 엮여 칸을 만들고 다음 칸, 다음 글로 이동한다.
After a fictional letter is discovered buried underground, Above the Line, Below the Floor of the Letter traces the past in which the letter had remained hidden, and was created with the aim of transforming the linear movement of time both within the image and within conceptual temporality.
The letter buried long ago has already arrived spatially, yet its transmission is completed only at the moment it is discovered after traversing a vast duration of time. It is found only after enough time has passed for the risen water level to recede once again. A fishing line is cast in order to retrieve the letter transmitted from the past. On the surface of the letter remain only traces of ink and the places where writing once existed. Although we say that we “write downward,” writing is in fact added horizontally, one character at a time. As stories accumulate and flow toward an ending like shifting terrain, images continue to move forward rather than remain stored upon the screen, revealing moments of dissipation more vividly than fixed instants. The fishing line cast downward to retrieve what has been buried strikes against the floor. Moving between ground and paper, the lines intertwine like a net, forming compartments that shift toward the next space, the next word.
