도시가 공통적으로 가지고 있는 것들이 있다. 밤이 돼도 불이 꺼지지 않는 상가, 아파트의 각기 다른 빛, 계속 켜져 있는 십자가 불빛부터 계절에 맞게 시민들이 만들어낸 눈사람이나 놀이의 흔적들까지. 또한 공기관, 공터, 공원, 재개발된 고층 아파트와 오래된 주공아파트들은 고개를 들면 볼 수 있는 하늘 아래 같은 지면에서 도시를 형성한다. 과천 지역을 걸어다니며 촬영한 수직 파노라마 이미지를 위아래로 이어붙여 공회전하는 듯한 풍경에 도시의 부유물들을 조합해 만든 가상의 이미지를 불임으로써(merging spot), 고정적인 도시의 풍경을 변화시킴과 동시에 모든 도시가 가지고 있는 요소들을 발견하는 체험을 의도하였다.
There are elements commonly shared by all cities: commercial buildings whose lights remain on through the night, the varied lights of apartment windows, illuminated crosses that stay lit continuously, and traces of play or snowmen made seasonally by residents. Public institutions, empty lots, parks, newly redeveloped high-rise apartments, and aging public housing complexes together construct the city upon the same ground beneath a shared sky. By vertically stitching together panoramic images filmed while walking through Gwacheon and inserting fictional images composed of urban debris into these endlessly circulating landscapes (merging spot), the work sought both to transform the fixed scenery of the city and to produce an experience of discovering the elements common to all urban environments.

불빛사념체 Light-Thought Entity, 2021, digital print, 40 × 119 cm, 2 panels
디지털 프린트로 선보인 〈불빛사념체〉는 〈merging spot〉에 사용된 불빛 이미지를 조합한 가상의 조형물들로 이루어져 있다. 밤이 되어도 꺼지지 않는 지역 곳곳의 십자가 조명들과, 시민들이 만들고 떠난 눈사람과 같은 사진들을 수집하여 사라지지 않는 사념을 가상의 조형물로 시각화하고, 각 개체마다 이름을 지었다.
Presented as digital prints, Luminous Thought-Form consists of fictional sculptural forms created by combining the light images used in merging spot. Collecting photographs of illuminated crosses that remain lit throughout the night and traces left behind by residents, such as snowmen, the work visualizes persistent residual thoughts as fictional sculptural entities, assigning a distinct name to each object.
These two works were presented as part of a special exhibition affiliated with the Gwacheon Public Art Project.
