젠체하기를 일삼는 Z와 그런 Z를 시기하면서도 모방하기를 반복하는 M, 그리고 이 둘 사이를 잇는 C와의 삼각관계를 바탕으로 극이 진행된다. 등장인물 Z와 M은 서문으로만 등장하는 C에게 구애하는 과정에서 자신의 감정을 설명하기 위해 모든 소재들을 사랑의 묘사로 변형한다. 그들은 그들만의 경쟁적인 삼각관계 속에서 자신들이 더 C에 대해 ‘먼저’ 알고 있음을 강조하는 발화를 통해 결국, 시간마저 변형시킨다.
극은 암전된 공간에서 손전등으로 바닥을 비추거나, 낮은 안시의 프로젝터 불빛 등에 의지한 체 진행된다. 극이 진행되는 동안 두 명의 인물은 지시를 따르는 퍼포머이자 극 속 등장인물의 성격을 연기하는 두 가지 역할을 동시에 이행하게 된다. 극 속의 시간은 퍼포머의 수행에 맞추어 늘어졌다가, 인물들의 대화를 통해 제 위치를 찾는다. 설치된 스크린과 조각들은 퍼포머의 행위에 따라 스크린에서 천으로, 그러다 다시 벽이되며 역할을 달리해나간다. 유사한 단어들은 마치 꿈처럼 예상치 못한 타이밍에 반복적으로 나타난다. 극이 끝나고 불이 켜진 후 남은 풍경으로 바닥에 쓰여진 글씨의 변화, 공연이 진행되는 동안 굴러간 동전 등과 같은 흔적들로 극 속의 시간을 추측할 수 있다.
The performance unfolds through a triangular relationship between Z, who constantly affects an air of superiority, M, who envies and repeatedly imitates Z, and C, who connects the two. In the process of attempting to court C—who appears only through the prologue—Z and M transform every possible subject into a language for describing love. Within their competitive triangular relationship, their insistence that they knew C “before” the other ultimately begins to distort time itself.
The performance proceeds within a darkened space illuminated only by flashlights directed at the floor and the dim glow of low-lumen projectors. Throughout the piece, the two performers simultaneously fulfill dual roles: following instructions as performers while also embodying the personalities of the characters within the play. Time within the performance stretches according to the performers’ actions before being reoriented through the dialogue between the characters. Installed screens and sculptural objects continuously shift their functions according to the performers’ gestures—transforming from screens into fabric, and then again into walls. Similar words recur unexpectedly, almost dreamlike, at irregular moments. After the performance ends and the lights are turned on, traces such as altered writings on the floor or coins displaced during the performance allow the audience to infer the time that unfolded within the play.
