Mouthless는 특정한 주기로 사람이 오가는 비어있는 섬에 대한 상상에서 출발했다. 특정한 생태계가 구성되어 있을 것이라는 외부인의 비어있는 섬에 대한 상상, 뒤섞이고 집적된 가상의 이미지 파일들, 해외로 여행을 떠난 주변인들의 사진 라이브러리를 공유받고 그것으로 '입이 없는 섬'의 구성된 발화라는 상황을 상정했다. 푸티지의 분류, 이미지에 대한 프롬프트형 AI의 재구성, 호주-일본-필리핀-한국-동유럽을 오가는 여행의 감흥이 가득한 '특별한' 기억들 특정한 공간에 대한 제의적 환상의 이야기로 재구성된다.
Mouthless begins with an imagined deserted island intermittently visited by people. It stages the perspective of an outsider who projects the existence of a distinct ecosystem onto such an empty island, drawing on accumulated and intermingled virtual image files and shared photo libraries from acquaintances who have traveled abroad to construct a situation of “utterance without a mouth.” The work reorganizes the classification of footage, prompt-based AI reconstructions of images, and “special” memories imbued with the affect of travel across Australia, Japan, the Philippines, Korea, and Eastern Europe into a narrative shaped as a ritualized fantasy of a specific place.
다음은 나레이션의 일부이다. "나는 같은 시간에서 일어나는 다른 채널의 사건을 듣게됩니다. 알아 볼수는 없지만 추상은 아니다, 그것은 의도없는 구상이다. 이곳에는 아무것도 없지만 우리는 그것을 건드릴 수 없다. 빈 집에 들어온 영매가 저렇게 중얼거리는 것을 들었다는 얘기입니다" 데이터가 공간을 집적하고 다시 그것을 구성하는 새로운 이미지 환경 속에서, 환상이라는 감각의 재현에 대한 방식을 고민하고자 했다.
The following is an excerpt from the narration: “I hear events from another channel unfolding at the same time. I cannot recognize them, yet they are not abstract; they are figuration without intention. There is nothing here, yet we cannot touch it. It is said that a medium who entered an empty house was heard murmuring in this way.” Within a new image environment in which data accumulates into space and reconfigures it, the work reflects on modes of representing the sensory condition of fantasy.
