Room for Escape/Portal Set
전시는 기존작 field trip(2023) 속 하루동안 벌어지는 견학이라는 서사적 단위를 듀레이션으로 삼아 영상들을 재생한다. 공간은 영상이 발생하는 직접적인 표면으로의 내부이자 그것을 포함하고 있는 외부 세계라는 이중의 상태로 상정된다. 루프되는 상황 속에서 촬영과 포징(posing), 시야와 프레임, 안팎을 움직이는 이야기의 상황들은 뒤섞인다. 벗어나는 경험은 속해 있는 시공간적 조건을 발견하는 것에서 시작되며, 이를 위한 영상들은 벽면 위 끊김없는 타임라인 속 계속 이동한다.
The exhibition presents the videos using the narrative unit of a “field trip” unfolding over the course of a single day—drawn from the previous work Field Trip (2023)—as their duration. The space is conceived as a dual condition: both an interior as the immediate surface on which the images emerge, and an exterior world that contains it. Within this looping condition, filming and posing, vision and frame, and the situations of narratives moving between inside and outside become entangled. The experience of deviation begins with the recognition of the spatiotemporal conditions in which one is situated, and the videos, in this regard, continue to move along an uninterrupted timeline across the wall.

Programming Configuration
Set 1. Loop instruction for the single-channel video that serves as the duration baseline: Field Trip, 2023 (sound remix 2024), 13'42", single-channel video.
Set 2. Instruction for a random loop of clips selected from 14 video fragments, in which the duration and positions of tracks 1 and 14 remain fixed; the sum of individual durations is aligned with Set 1: No Host Set, 2024, total duration 13'42", video clip random loop.
Set 3. Same instruction as Set 2: Loitering Set, 2024, total duration 13'42", video clip random loop.
OPERATION
portal set는 각기 다른 단위로 구성된 3개의 비디오 채널을 루프하는 프로그램이다. 이음매없이 영상이 반복되는 전시장의 비선형적 환경 속에서 부분적으로 선형적 구성을 보여주기 위하여 싱글 채널 영상의 듀레이션을 기준으로 처음과 끝 지점을 설정하고, 또 다른 2개의 채널 속 영상 클립 일부를 랜덤으로 이어붙이는 명령으로 구성되어 있다. 이러한 세트는 일종의 뼈대로, 내부를 구성하는 클립들은 변경 가능하다. 전시《Room for Escape》에서 이 프로그램은 아이폰의 곡률을 참고한 스크린에 틀어지는 아이폰의 곡률을 참고한 스크린에 영사된 단채널 Field trip(2023)로 구성되어 사용되었다. 2채널로 설치된 loitering set(2024)과 no host set(2024)은 벽면 위에서 프로젝션 매핑과 제작된 반사 스크린을 통해 부분적으로 교차한다. 이때 프로젝션은 맞은편의 거울을 통해 벽면에 맺히고, 반사 스크린은 영상의 일부를 공간으로 다시금 내보낸다.이러한 프로그램으로 움직이는 이미지들은 고정된 서사를 가진 채 반복되면서도, 매번 다르게 조합되는 반복을 거듭하며 새로운 이야기를 발생시킨다.이는 랜덤으로 이어붙는 상황을 조직하기 위한 전체의 공간 음향, 동일한 퍼포머라는 요소, 서로의 모양을 흉내내는 움직임들과 인물들의 시선을 통해 성기게 얽힌다.
OPERATION
The Portal Set is a program that loops three video channels composed of distinct units. Within the nonlinear exhibition environment, where images repeat seamlessly, the beginning and end points are defined based on the duration of a single-channel video in order to introduce a partially linear structure, while segments from clips in the other two channels are randomly concatenated. Such a set functions as a kind of skeleton, within which the clips that constitute its internal structure remain interchangeable.
In the exhibition Room for Escape, this program was realized through a single-channel projection of Field Trip(2023) onto a screen whose curvature references that of an iPhone. The two-channel installations Loitering Set(2024) and No Host Set (2024) partially intersect across the wall through projection mapping and custom-built reflective screens. In this configuration, projections are cast onto the wall via a mirror positioned opposite, while the reflective screens redirect portions of the images back into the space.
The moving images generated through this program repeat with a fixed narrative, yet through each recombination, they produce new narratives. This condition is loosely structured through the overall spatial sound design, the use of the same performer, movements that mimic one another, and the gaze exchanged between figures, all of which serve to organize the randomness of concatenation.

각 세트에는 실내(no host set)와 실외(loitering set)에서 촬영된 것으로 구성된 14개 영상이 들어있다. 개별 시퀀스들은 완결된 에피소드 단위이지만, 랜덤 루프를 보는 관객의 타이밍과 시점에 따라 공간의 소실점에 위치한 field trip의 확장 스크린으로도, 개별적인 영상으로도, 혹은 인물의 움직임에 따라 지시되는 ‘시선’으로 연결되기도 하는 과정 속에서 각기 다른 경험을 유도한다. 시퀀스들은 특정한 인물의 그림자가 늘어났다가 다시 원래로 돌아오는 상황, 밝은 낮에 핸드폰 화면을 통해 이동했더니 밤이 되는 상황, 순환 논증과도 같이 다시 처음을 지시하는 말들로 구성된 자막 등이 있다. 이는 ‘랜덤’이라는 상황 속에서도 영상이 자연스러운 일련의 서사적 경험으로 기능하게 하기 위함이다. 특히 각 시퀀스의 처음과 끝점이 화면 속 인물이 무언가 쳐다보거나 특정한 화면을 보여주는 등의 방식을 통해, 랜덤한 배열이 화면 속 주 인물의 시점샷(P.O,V)으로 기능하거나, 공간 속의 또다른 스크린으로 관객의 시선을 유도하고자 했다.
Each set contains 14 video sequences composed of footage filmed in interior (no host Set) and exterior (loitering Set) environments. While each sequence forms a self-contained episodic unit, the experience varies depending on the viewer’s timing and viewpoint within the random loop.
